The Toyota Hilux entered the Indian car market with a bang. And as expected, it has become a hit among off-road enthusiasts, owing to its global heritage as an invincible vehicle and the reliable image of Toyota as a brand. The Hilux has already hit the world of customization too, with several Hilux owners giving it a touch of personalization and changes to make it even more hardcore than its stock version. Here’s a heavily customized Toyota Hilux with added components to make it a more serious go-anywhere vehicle.

In a YouTube video by ‘Rolling Pistons’, the presenter introduces his viewers to Pulkit Kaushik, a proud owner of a heavily-customized Toyota Hilux from Delhi. The video explains all the added off-road spec bits Pulkit opted for in his Hilux, making it a proper vehicle for the toughest of terrains. The Hilux owner begins explaining the add-ons with two major bits added to the Hilux – an after-market snorkel inspired from those made by Australia-based TJM and multiple underbody bash plates which protect key mechanical components of the vehicle under the skin.

The customized Toyota Hilux here in the video also gets off-road spec BF Goodrich tyres, which are considered to be one of the bests in this business. To accommodate these off-road spec tyres, the price of which is Rs 27,000 per tyre, the owner also swapped the stock diamond-cut alloy wheels with after-market Lenso Max 11 alloys, with the complete set costing Rs 85,000.

The star highlight among all the modifications or add-ons in the Toyota Hilux is the modified cargo area at the back. The cargo deck comes with a covered area with custom roll cages, with a retractable table on the left-hand side of the cage. This covered area also gets 30W light with 30 different configurable colour options and mounts for a sand ladder, jerry cans and shovel on the roof of it. The surface of the deck lid is covered with a rubber LINEX coating to protect the original paint of the deck’s surface.

In addition, the lower half of the deck gets a remote-controlled roller shutter over it, which has been sourced from Thailand-based Hamer. On the roof of this covered area, the Hilux gets a foldable hard-shell tent with a foldable ladder, which can accommodate three full-sized adults after uncovering it. This tent also comes with an integrated mattress and foldable windows. The owner also plans to install a solar panel above the roof of the hard-shell cover, within which the tent is stored after folding it.

Apart from explaining his add-ons, the Hilux owner here also points out some of the shortcomings which he experienced in the Hilux during his ownership. He complained about the abundance of hard plastics everywhere in the cabin and is not so impressed with the NVH levels too. He also says that the rear seat comfort can be an issue on longer journeys for some.
